Production of Scaffolds with Variable Oxygen Concentrations for Cartilage-Bone

 | Post date: 2020/08/9 |
Sajedeh Khorshidi, biomaterial PhD. graduate of the department of biomedical engineering and developer of the project titled “Design and Manufacturing of Scaffolds with Variable Oxygen Concentrations for Cartilage-Bone Joint” explained that cartilage and bone are metabolically different and said: “Oxygen content is a decisive metabolic parameter, which is different in cartilage and bone. However, the oxygen content has never been examined as a determining factor in behavior of cartilage-bone joint cells. The present project is intended to develop a hydrogel/particle scaffold with oxygen delivering factor changing gradually across the scaffold thickness.”
Final and optimized product of this project can be used clinically to treat osteochondral injuries.
Supervisor of the project is Dr. Akbar Karkhaneh, faculty member of Amirkabir University of Technology.
